San Diego investment firm buys Gardner Price Chopper property for $11M

The property housing a Price Chopper grocery store in Gardner has been bought for $11.4 million by a San Diego investment firm.

The buyer, Realty Income, has a national portfolio of properties including thousands of locations housing businesses like 7-Eleven, Dollar General, Walgreens and other retailers. The firm owned 58 properties in Massachusetts as of the end of September.

The Price Chopper at 560 E. Main St. was last owned by CIM Group, a real estate investor based in Los Angeles. The sale closed Dec. 11.

The Price Chopper site totals 11 acres and was last assessed by the City of Gardner at $3.7 million. CIM Group paid $14.5 million for the site in 2014.

This is an interesting transaction. It is curious as to why the price fell during a good economic period.
