Framingham drug developer Sanofi’s new facility has received acclaim for its design, construction and operation from the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering.

The Overall Facility of the Year Award was received by the company for the Framingham facility opened in October 2019. According to Sanofi, it is one of the first digital facilities to make use of paperless and data-driven manufacturing technologies, thus reducing the time to move from labs to production for products.

The site launched its first commercially approved product in September.

The news comes as the company builds a 900,000-square-foot complex in Cambridge to consolidate much of its Massachusetts operations. That facility is expected to open in 2021, but the company has said it will retain a presence in Framingham.
