Seasonal Hiring Was Bright In 2010

Seasonal hiring created an extra 646,300 jobs nationally between October and December of 2010, up 28.9 percent from the previous year, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc.

The global outplacement consulting firm found that retail employment growth in December was higher than in any December since 2005, with 181,900 positions added. October hiring was higher than it's been since 2006, while November hiring was about the same as last year.

The firm said the hiring made sense because holiday sales were the best they've been in several years.
