Worldwide computer storage software sales rose 9.4 percent during the first quarter, compared to the same time last year, according to IDC of Framingham.
Worldwide sales of computer storage software totaled $2.9 billion, according to IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Software Trackers, driven by data protection as well as recovery and storage replication.
This marks the 18th consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth for this market.
EMC Corp. of Hopkinton was the leader in the first quarter with 24.9 percent market share, which was a slight decrease over the same time last year when it had 25.6 percent.
EMC's computer storage software revenue rose by 6.1 percent rise over the same time last year, selling $715 million compared to $674 million during the same time last year.
Other leaders in computer storage software sales were Symantec Corp., IBM Corp. and NetApp Inc.
