Talk Back from the March 14, 2011 issue

Independent Streak
Our page-one story in the Feb. 28 issue on Southbridge’s independent grocery store Big Bunny was a big hit with readers, eliciting a number of supportive comments.

"Excellent article showcasing how a well-run small business can indeed compete — and succeed! — in a VERY competitive environment. Tip o' the hat to the Cournoyers."

Bob_Chernisky

"I have always been a fan of Big Bunny. Their meat department is fantastic. It is good to hear that they are committed to maintaining the high quality they are known for and still able to compete with the chains."

The Numbers
Our Behind the Sound Bite item from the Feb. 28 issue looked at the numbers behind a claim from David Morales, commissioner of the state Division of Health Care Finance and Policy, that 97 to 98 percent of Massachusetts residents now have health insurance, up from 93 percent pre-health care reform. One online reader took issue with our research, and Morales’ claim.

"…Morales is misleading because Romneycare failed to achieve the promised universality. And depending on which statistical methodology and whose statistics you use (there are many), it did not even move the needle statistically speaking...Over 90 percent of Massachusetts residents have always had health insurance."

Staying Optimistic
The snow hasn’t depressed all of those in the real estate sector. Just take this comment from an online reader reacting to a WBJ Daily Report item on trends in the Massachusetts housing sector.

"The weather is breaking and buyers and sellers are returning to the scene… After all, traditionally Feb. 15 is the start of the spring market. Think Spring!"
