Telecom Investments To Grow In 2011

The Boston-based Yankee Group is projecting that global spending on telecommunications will rise 2.9 percent in 2011 over the 2010 level.

The annual increase is the first time telecom spending is expected to grow since 2009.

While the picture is for growth globally, the story is somewhat different in North America, where the Yankee Group expects spending in the sector to decline by 3 percent from $70.8 billion in 2010 to $68.7 billion in 2011.

China, on the other hand, is expected to exceed expectations, increasing its telecom spending by 10 percent.

The global growth is being fueled by pent-up consumer demand for mobile broadband services.
