MetroWest-based retailers TJX Cos. Inc. and BJ's Wholesale Club Inc. both reported single-digit September sales increases compared to last year.
Framingham-based TJX, which operates T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods and A.J. Wright stores, reported increased sales of 6 percent to $2.1 billion last month. For the 35-week period ending in September, sales increased 9 percent.
The company noted that warm and wet weather slowed sales during the final week of September across the New England states. The company expects third quarter earnings to be between $0.89 and $0.91 per share when financial results are announced on Nov. 16.
Meanwhile, Natick-based retailer BJ's reported a 3.6 percent increase in sales last month up from $916.6 million to $928.1 million.
Same-store sales increased 1.5 percent, including a 0.7 percent increase in gasoline sales. Last September, same-store sales were down 0.5 percent, with gas sales down 6 percent.
The wholesale retailer reported that food sales increased 4 percent but general merchandise sales decreased 5 percent in September. There was a 2 percent increase in traffic, but the average transaction amount decreased 2 percent. The company operates 189 clubs in 15 states.
