U. of Hartford awarded $1.3M engineering grant

The University of Hartford has been awarded a $1.3 million grant that will bolster its efforts to boost the engineering program at Herat University in Afghanistan.

As part of the grant, 16 faculty members from Herat University will come to the University of Hartford during a three-year period to pursue master's degrees in civil and mechanical engineering. The first group of faculty members are expected to arrive later this month and will study for one to two years.

The grant, awarded by the Afghanistan Ministry of Higher Education through the World Bank, is part of an effort to rebuild higher education in the country. University of Hartford associate professor of civil engineering M. Saleh Keshawarz is a native of Afghanistan and has led the university's involvement with Herat University.
