Tufts University's Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine is joining with Worcester Technical High School to open a new pet clinic for Greater Worcester.
The clinic will be located at the high school, on Skyline Drive, and will allow students in the school's veterinary assistant program to work with fourth-year veterinary students in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program at the Grafton-based Tufts campus.
The facility will serve low-income pet owners, providing vaccinations, basic care and simple surgeries at low prices.
The clinic, which the Cummings School says is believed to be the first such partnership between a veterinary school and a high school, is scheduled to open in late spring.
The clinic is receiving $225,000 in funding from two private foundations and an anonymous donor, as well as an $85,000 equipment grant from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center. Worcester-based LABEX of MA also provided about $9,000 in equipment.
