Eric Casey, a Worcester-based reporter who most recently founded the publication Burn After Reading to cover the cannabis industry, has been hired as the newest staff writer at Worcester Business Journal.

At WBJ, Casey will primarily cover real estate and manufacturing, which includes cannabis and breweries. His first day was Oct. 23, and he has already reported on several important business news developments in Central Massachusetts, including a marijuana firm pulling out of its Grafton project and Tree House Brewing’s planned expansion into New York.

“Eric is an extremely driven and resourceful reporter. We are lucky to have him on the staff at WBJ, and our readers will soon discover the impact he will have on the media industry in the region,” WBJ Editor Brad Kane said.

Casey is taking over the real estate beat from Timothy Doyle, who on Nov. 13 will move into an account manager role in the WBJ Sales Department.

Prior to founding Burn After Reading in 2022, Casey worked in the cannabis industry, including as a transport agent at Framingham testing firm MCR Labs and as an outreach and education coordinator for Mission dispensaries in Worcester. Previously, he worked as a background actor on such films as “Boston Strangler” and “Good Burger 2.”

"It's a tremendous honor to join a publication like WBJ and to cover the region I grew up in," said Casey. "I look forward to continuing to build upon the skills I developed as a freelance writer and at Burn After Reading."
