Wednesday has 10 new coronavirus deaths, 115 new cases in Worcester County

Worcester County had 10 new reported coronavirus deaths Wednesday and 115 new cases overall, according to new Massachusetts Department of Public Health data.

The new cases brought Worcester County to a total of 3,456, an increase in one day of 3%. Statewide, cases rose by 1,745 cases, or 4%, to 42,944.

The 10 new cases bring Worcester County’s death total so far to 143. Statewide, deaths increased Wednesday by 221 to hit 2,182.

The Department of Public Health reported 5,090 new coronavirus tests conducted for a total of 180,462.

The City of Worcester reported 1,445 total cases Wednesday, up 206, or 17%, in one day. That's by far the city's largest single-day increase. For comparison, Worcester County had roughly as many cases on April 9.

The field hospital at the DCU Center had 83 patients.

UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester had 151 confirmed or suspected coronavirus cases as of Wednesday, including 56 in intensive care. Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester had 80 total cases, including 14 in intensive care.

Nationally, more than 842,000 cases have been reported, along with more than 46,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. Worldwide, cases have surpassed 2.6 million cases with nearly 183,000 deaths.
