Westborough-based energy efficiency contractor Noresco has been hired to make as much as $5 billion in energy and water efficiency improvements at federal facilities around the world.
Noresco is a long-time federal contractor and the new multi-year deal charges the company with implementing efficiency and renewable energy projects at federally owned facilities under several different government energy and security initiatives.
Noresco is one of 16 companies awarded contracts as part of the initiatives, which have potential to undertake as much as $80 billion in projects.
Some of the initiatives aim for 30 percent reduction in energy consumption by 2015 and a 16 percent reduction in water use over the same period.
Noresco is a subsidiary of Conn.-based HVAC giant Carrier Corp., which is a unit of United Technologies Corp., also based in the Nutmeg State.
