Worcester County coronavirus death toll rose to 954 in the last week

Worcester County reported 176 new coronavirus cases between July 3 and Thursday, with 20 new fatalities, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

The new cases reported in the past week increase Worcester County's total to 12,583 since the pandemic began. Statewide, there were 1,559 new probable and confirmed coronavirus cases, bringing the Massachusetts total to 110,905.

The 20 fatalities in Worcester County between July 3 and Thursday bring the total death toll to 954. Statewide, there were 135 confirmed coronavirus fatalities, for a total of 8,053.

The City of Worcester reported a now total of 5,308 coronavirus cases since the pandemic began, which is a 61-case increase from the week prior.

UMass Memorial Health Care and Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester report 27 total inpatient coronavirus cases, with seven in intensive care. To date, the hospitals have had 346 coronavirus deaths, and 370 employees have tested positive.

MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham and Natick reported 14 confirmed and suspected cases, and Milford Regional Medical Center reported six. In total, the hospitals had three inpatients in intensive care. Harrington Hospital in Southbridge, Heywood Hospital in Gardner, and HealthAlliance in Leominster report 14 total suspected and confirmed cases, and three in the ICU.

Nationally, there have been more than 3.1 confirmed coronavirus cases, and 133,291 fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. Globally, there have been more than 12.2 million cases reported and 555,493 deaths.
