The Worcester Housing Authority was granted $2.5 million for site and public infrastructure improvements by the state’s MassWorks Infrastructure Program for the redevelopment of the Curtis Apartments on Great Brook Valley Avenue in Worcester.

Partnering with Boston developer Trinity Financial, the Housing Authority plans to create 462 mixed-income units at the site, increasing the number of units from 372. The project is expected to cost $178 million, according to a January press release from WHA.

In phase one of the project, the housing authority has proposed demolishing three existing buildings containing 90 units and building two new four-story structures containing approximately 129 units.

Founded in 1987, Trinity Financial has offices in Boston and New York City and developed and revitalized public housing, mixed-income and market-rate housing, as well as commercial properties across Massachusetts and New York.

Locally, Trinity redeveloped the former courthouse on Main Street in Worcester into a 118-unit mixed income development called Courthouse Lofts.

Community One Stop for Growth delivers funding from 12 state economic development programs including the MassWorks Infrastructure Program. The fiscal 2023 round of funding provided $143 million in grants, including $100 million from MassWorks, according to a press release from the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development.
