Multiscale Systems, a Worcester research and development company, has been awarded a $200,000 contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to develop parts for nuclear reactors.

The Small Business Innovation Research contract is for the company to develop bearings that work in the extreme conditions of sodium-fast reactors, which are more efficient than older reactors.

“Solving this important technical problem is a critical step to unlocking new energy resources that support the nation’s efforts to decarbonize,” CEO and Research Director Jesse Silverberg said in a Thursday press release.

Multiscale Systems was founded in 2018 and is located in the Armory Business Center on Canterbury Street.
