WPI Gets $1.2M For Diabetes Management App

Researchers at Worcester Polytechnic Institute have received $1.2 million from the National Science Foundation to develop a smartphone application that would help people manage diabetes.

The university's Healthcare Delivery Institute will manage the four-year project, collaborating with diabetes and wound care experts at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

The application would integrate patients' smartphones with glucose meters and scales, and would also use the phones' cameras to analyze foot ulcers, which can be dangerous to people with advanced cases of diabetes.

Using the data collected, the app will offer patients feedback to help them manage the disease.
