WPI named partner in robotics manufacturing institute

Worcester Polytechnic Institute was named as a partner organization within the Advanced Robotics Manufacturing Institute.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute was named as a partner organization within the Advanced Robotics Manufacturing Institute, a $250 million national robotics initiative.

The robotics institute, announced by the Baker-Polito administration earlier this month, is a national public-private partnership awarded through Manufacturing USA. Massachusetts will provide $5 million in matching funds in addition to the $80 million in federal funds awarded to the national project. The Advanced Robotics Manufacturing Institute will focus on developing robots' ability to interact with humans on manufacturing floors.

This is the seventh Manufacturing USA innovation institute brought to Massachusetts under the Baker-Polito Administration. Other participating institutions include Northeastern University, MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and UMass Lowell.
