Bartholomew & Company

Bartholomew & Company: Dedicated, Experienced and Trusted

After amassing 17 years experience in the investment and banking industries, Thomas Bartholomew felt the time was right to launch his own business. So, he established Bartholomew & Company in the summer of 1994. Throughout the next 25 years, the firm grew its client base, expanded its scope of practice and added to its staff, securing its place as a leader in the local financial investment space.

During the last quarter century, Bartholomew’s staff has grown from two to 29, currently boasting 13 registered Investment Adviser Representatives, two of whom are Certified Financial Planner® professionals (CFP®s); two registered representatives; six registered support staff; and eight additional support staff.

Bartholomew has also broadened its physical presence to include the flagship Worcester office as well as branches in Chatham and Bedford, Massachusetts “We are expanding and launching new offices to keep up with our growing business,” President and Founder Thomas Bartholomew said.

Bartholomew has always attracted significant interest from high net worth individual investors and institutions. However, during the last 15 years the company has evolved into a full service financial planning firm that provides sound financial investing advice to a wide range of clients, with varying levels of investable assets.

“The firm now comprises two distinct businesses,” said Bartholomew. “We help families and individuals manage their assets. We also serve the government and institutional sector, including non-profits and endowments, primarily in Massachusetts. We provide investment advisory services in 250 of the 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth.”

Bartholomew’s portfolio is comprised of more than 1,790 households and more than $2.3 billion in assets under advisement, including a few hundred institutional accounts.

According to Bartholomew, the company’s business model sets it apart from its competitors. “Because our investment team manages more than $1.5 billion in institutional assets, individual investors benefit from our experience and expertise in this area, largely by being able to enjoy the same level of sophistication and diversification in their own portfolios. We are constantly studying world economics and global nuances in public finance to best position our clients’ portfolios,” he said. “Most important, all business is transacted in-house. We do not farm any part of our advisory business out to a third party.”

Bartholomew repays its good fortune by supporting several area non-profit organizations. In honor of its 20th anniversary in 2014, the company established the “Bartholomew Anniversary Fund” at the Greater Worcester Community Foundation (GWCF); employees select charitable community organizations to receive contributions from the fund annually. Bartholomew currently serves as chair of the GWCF’s Investment Committee and several employees sit on the Scholarship Committee.

Additionally, Bartholomew is a community member of the Investment Committee at the Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts; a Development Council member at UMass Medical School/UMass Memorial; and Corporator at the Worcester Art Museum. Bartholomew & Company is also a Worcester Art Museum Business Partner.

Employees of Bartholomew & Company serve on area boards, including the Nichols College Advisory Board, YOU, Inc., the YMCA of Worcester-Greendale Family Branch and the Worcester County Food Bank. At various times throughout the year, Bartholomew employees can be found sorting food donations for distribution. Staff has also participated in the Holiday Giving program with the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester. Additionally, many employees are involved with volunteer opportunities in their own communities.

Bartholomew’s accomplishments have earned national recognition from prestigious financial publications. For the last two years, InvestmentNews has named Bartholomew & Company, Inc. to its list of Best Places to Work for Financial Advisers*.  The firm has also received accolades from Forbes, Barron’s, Financial Times and Boston Magazine. “We’re proud of our accomplishments. Our clients appreciate the fact that we are recognized,” said Bartholomew.

For the last 25 years, Bartholomew & Company has provided trusted financial advice to individuals, families and institutions. Looking ahead, clients can expect more of the same, thanks to Bartholomew’s dedication, experience and personalized service.
