10-Year High In New England VC Investment

Venture capital investment in New England hit its highest quarterly level in 10 years in the second quarter of 2011, according to the latest MoneyTree Report from PricewaterhouseCoopers.

VC investment in the region totaled $1.1 billion in the second quarter, up 56 percent from the first quarter of the year. The money was spread over 119 deals.

Total VC investment in the United States rose 19 percent from the first to the second quarter, hitting $7.5 billion over 966 deals. That was the most investment in a single quarter since the second quarter of 2008.

Nationally, the most money went to software companies, $1.5 billion, with biotechnology close behind at $1.2 billion.
