40 Under Forty Class of 2014: Rick Porter

Porter when he won the 40 Under Forty award in 2014

Rick Porter

Then: Operations manager for Cinch I.T.

Now: President of Cinch I.T., Worcester

Since 2014, Porter has taken Cinch I.T. to new levels. Now the sole owner, he has grown the company’s headcount by 22 employees and moved the business from a cramped 2,500-square-foot office on West Boylston Street to a newly purchased 12,000-square-foot office on West Mountain Street. In those five years, the company has launched a franchise program with the firm opening six new franchise locations to reach clients in 34 states. This year, the company made the Inc. 5000 list as one of the fastest-growing private companies in the U.S. Personally, Porter has been appointed to the board of the Better Business Bureau of Central & Western Massachusetts and created the Cinch I.T. College Scholarship Program for graduating high school seniors. The company is large enough to sponsor local youth sports teams, which gives Porter the chance to see his children wearing Cinch I.T.’s name and logo on jerseys. – Profile written by Zachary Comeau

What did 40 Under Forty mean to you? I was honestly shocked. I found myself surrounded by so many brilliant business people, made some great connections, and developed relationships I still have to this day. People always say to surround yourself with people who inspire and motivate you to be better, and that was what this group was for me. I followed the group’s successes, and they each motivated me to do better and to challenge myself.
