Love your smartphone? Well, you're not alone, according to a report from Framingham-based IDC. The firm predicts that the global smartphone market will grow by nearly 50 percent this year.
Smartphone vendors will ship more than 450 million smartphones in 2011 compared to the 303.4 million shipped in 2010.
Android is expected to take over as the leading smartphone operating system this year, after taking over the No. 2 position in 2010. The Android system is owned by search engine giant Google.
Apple's operating system for the iPhone, known as iOS, is expected to have 15.7 percent of the smartphone market by the end of the year.
By 2015, Android is expected to command 45 percent of the smartphone operating system market.
