Ocean State Job Lot has opened a location in Webster, the Rhode Island-based discount retailer’s 11th location in Central Massachusetts and 54th location in the state.
The 37,024-square-foot store is located at the Webster Commons shopping plaza at 116 East Main St., which Ocean State purchased for $14.5 million in February. The retailer’s purchase of the plaza came after the closure of a Big Lots location at the site, which closed as part of Big Lots’ wind down following Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.
Other tenants in the plaza include CVS, Papa Gino’s, The Salvation Army Thrift Store, Aubuchon Hardware, and Planet Fitness, according to Google Maps listings.
The retailer marked the opening of the store with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday and a donation of a pallet of food to the Webster Dudley Food Share, according to a Monday press release from Ocean State. The opening will be celebrated on Saturday with complimentary beverages and donuts and free henna art for customers.
Founded in 1977, Ocean State Job Lot is a privately-held discount retail chain with 162 stores in New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. The retailer has approximately 5,600 employees, and annual sales which exceed $850 million.
