Assabet robots spread holiday cheer

The Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School robotics team is used to competing head-to-head with other high schools, but this holiday season they stepped out of that competitive role and worked to spread joy to sick children.

The students recently brought their 120 pound remote-controlled robot to the Dana Farber Jimmy Fund holiday party, where it entertained children. The recent visit was part of ongoing outreach by the robotics team, according to the school. Over the summer, the team visited a number of pre-schools, as well as the Boston Children’s Museum.

“We are trying to spread the word about how many fun careers there are in the STEM field by using the robotics program as a prime example,” Marcus Fletcher, project manager for the robotics program, said in a release.
