At Least We're Not Losing Population

The latest estimates from the U.S. Census found that Massachusetts added about 15,000 residents in the last year, an increase of less than 1 percent.

The census figures bring the total Bay State population as of July 1, 2007 to 6,449,755, up from the 6,434,389 recorded a year earlier. Since the last census in 2000, Massachusetts’ population grew by 100,000, or 1.6 percent.

As a whole, the Northeast saw its population grow from 2000 to 2007 by 2 percent to 54.7 million. Of the New England states, New Hampshire saw the most growth. Its population increased by 6.5 percent to 1.3 million since the 2000 census.
