Bank of America grants UMass Memorial $100K to support telemedicine

UMass Memorial Health Care

UMass Memorial Health Care in Worcester will receive a $100,000 grant from Bank of America to support the healthcare provider's telemedicine program, the company announced Wednesday.

The decision to bolster the telemedicine program at UMass Memorial comes as nearly 3,5000 patients across its network have tested positive for COVID-19.

“We are experiencing a longer than expected surge period, which will put an even greater strain on our resources, including the valuable personal protective equipment needed to keep our caregivers and patients safe from infection,” said UMass Memorial CEO Dr. Eric Dickson, in a statement.

Dickson said the network's telemedicine usage has increased significantly as the pandemic has unfolded, and telemedicine allows healthcare providers to see patients without requiring physical visits or using excess personal protective equipment.

Bank of America has committed $100 million to COVID-19 relief worldwide.
