Springfield-based supermarket chain Big Y, which has four locations in Central Massachusetts, is partnering with the online coupon company Groupon to bring discounts to its shoppers.
The new partnership was launched today, with Groupon members and Big Y shoppers in the Springfield area offered the chance to purchase a heavily discounted shellfish grill pack. The person must have or sign up for a Big Y loyalty card to be eligible for the deal.
The shopper purchases the product online through Groupon.com after entering his or her loyalty card number. Then, the shopper picks up the product at a Big Y location, and the deal is automatically credited at check out.
According to an article in Crain's Chicago Business, the Big Y deal marks a big step for Chicago-based Groupon, which has struggled to integrate its daily deals with large national and regional chain stores.
As of 11 a.m. this morning, 89 people had signed up for the Big Y Groupon.
