Caliper Turns $5.9M Profit In Q4

Hopkinton-based medical technology company Caliper Life Sciences turned a $5.9 million profit on $37.7 million in revenue during the fourth quarter.

That compares to a fourth quarter loss of $46.3 million a year earlier.

For the full year the company reported a revenue drop of about 3 percent from $134.1 million in 2008 to $130.4 million.

The company lost $8.2 million in 2009, an improvement from a $68.3 million loss in 2008. The company's year-end revenues were hurt in part by unfavorable foreign currency exchanges.

Revenues for one of the company's signatures products, the LabChip, grew by more than 20 percent in 2009, the company said.
