Canal District warehouse proposed to be 38-unit apartment complex

The building at 90 Lamartine St., formerly a self-storage facility, could be redeveloped into 38 apartments.
A New York developer is planning to redevelop a former industrial building on Lamartine Street in Worcester into a 38-unit residential complex.
The three-story property at 90 Lamartine St. has been used as a self-storage facility. It was built in 1889 and includes 43,000 square feet, according to a notice of intent sent to the Worcester Conservation Commission.
It is zoned for residential use.
Parcels at 84 and 91 Lamartine St. would be developed into parking lots for the residential building.
The proposed site is located 0.3 miles from the Polar Park ballpark and would abut Madison Properties’ five-building mixed-use development, which is currently under various stages of construction.
The developer proposing the project is Worcester Bedworks, Inc., which has owned the property since 1998, when it bought it for $65,000, according to the Worcester South District Registry of Deeds. The entity is registered to Leonid Turchinsky at an address in Bayside, N.Y.
The 90 Lamartine St. property is assessed at $546,600 by the City of Worcester.
Graves Engineering, a Worcester-based firm, prepared the project proposal for the Worcester Conservation Commission. The commission is set to hear the proposal at its Monday meeting.
