Candela acquires Israeli skin flattener

The Candela Corp. of Wayland will acquire Inolase Ltd of Netanya, Israel in a cash deal valued at $16.5 million.

Inolase manufactures a pneumatic skin flattening device used to reduce pain in hair removal. The product is also being considered for other uses including skin rejuvenation, skin tightening and for the treatment of pigmented lesions and tattoos.

Candela makes laser products to treat cosmetic and medical conditions.

Gerard Purro, president and CEO of Candela, said in a written statement Inolase is a perfect fit for Candela. He said the Inolase products have been shown to reduce the pain associated with laser and other light-based treatments.

Candela also announced the creation of an emerging opportunities unit to acquire or integrate other new technology with the Candela line. The company is also creating a customer operations division to service the company's international clients, which account for about half the company's sales, Purro said.
