Central Mass. Companies Get $500K For Training

More than $500,000 is being awarded to Central Massachusetts businesses through Workforce Training Fund Grants.

In all, the state is giving $2.1 million in funds to 28 companies in the commonwealth to support two years of training for nearly 3,000 workers, with the expectation that more than 200 new jobs will be created. Training will be spread among several sectors including engineering, lean manufacturing, supply, trade and food services.

"We are focused on addressing the skills gap issue in the commonwealth so that workers can compete in today's ever-changing jobs market," said Gov. Deval Patrick.

Since 2007, $68.66 million has been used to train 90,000 workers at 2,750 companies, according to the Patrick-Murray Administration.

Awards given to Central Massachusetts companies are:

Lentros Engineering Inc. of Ashland
: $25,220 awarded, 41 employees to be trained, and two additional jobs are expected to be created.

Dunkin' Donuts Northeast Distribution Center Inc. in Bellingham: $167,620 awarded, 388 employees to be trained and 34 new jobs expected to be created.

Alden Research Laboratory in Holden: $119,700 awarded, 78 employees to be trained, five new jobs expected.

Stellar Industries Corp. of Millbury
: $32,640 awarded, 42 employees to be trained, two additional jobs expected.

Steris Isomedix Inc. of Northborough: $47,000 awarded, 40 employees to be trained, six additional jobs expected.

Central Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board leading Southern Worcester Manufacturing Collaborative in Worcester: $103,675 awarded, 115 employees to be trained through consortium grant involving five companies, 12 new jobs expected.

Rand Whitney Packaging LLC in Worcester: $73,350 awarded; 42 employees to be trained; 10 new jobs expected.
