CFE gets injunction against polluter

The Hartford Superior Court has issued an injunction against Atlantic Wire to immediately cease dumping toxins into the Branford River.

The Connecticut Fund for the Environment, a New Haven-based environmental organization and major proponent of the action, sent formal notices against five companies in September 2007 indicating its intention to bring citizen lawsuits for penalties and an injunction under the Clean Water Act. After the notices were filed, four of the companies agreed to enter into formal DEP consent orders to address CFE's allegations, but Atlantic Wire did not.

The injunction includes immediate cessation of the release of polluted wastewater into the river, which will include oversight by environmental consultants, alarms on discharge systems and inspection for the new system.
