Cognex Eyes Strong Profit Increase

Natick-based Cognex Corp. reported first quarter net income increase of 83 percent on a revenue increase of 19 percent.
The company said its first quarter net income went from $4.6 million last year to $8.5 million this year. Revenue increased from $50.9 million last year to $60.5 million this year.
However, the first quarter results are down compared to the fourth quarter of 2007. For that period, the company reported net income of $11.1 million on revenue of $65.3 million. The company, which makes vision sensors for machines, manufacturing and assembly lines, said it expects revenue between $65 million and $68 million in the second quarter.
