Conn. equity firm invests in Acton hockey manufacturer

Sparx Hockey, the Acton-based inventor of an automated sharpener for hockey and figure skates announced it was selected as the official skate sharpening partner for the National Women's Hockey League.

Acton manufacturer Sparx Hockey has entered an investment partnership with North Castle Partners, a private equity firm based in Greenwich, Conn., according to a Tuesday announcement.

The terms of North Castle's investment in Sparx were not disclosed.

Sparx Hockey, most well-known for its Sparx Skate Sharpener, was founded in 2013 and, according to North Castle Partners, is a fast-growing company catering to both professional and amateur skaters.

"Sparx has experienced strong growth since its founding and we believe there is significant potential to further build on its success with increased investments in awareness, distribution and innovation," said North Castle managing director Alison Minter.

North Castle's priorities include working with businesses that promote healthy, active and sustainable living, the company said.
