For the second month in a row, consumers' views about current and future economic conditions improved as part of the monthly consumer confidence survey conducted by The Conference Board.
Consumer confidence rose from 55.2 to 64.5 in November compared to the month before, while the present situation index, which asks consumers about their views on the current economic conditions, rose from 38.3 to 46.7. The future expectations index, measuring predictions consumers have for the economic situation moving forward, also rose from 66.4 to 76.4.
"Consumers are more optimistic that business conditions, employment prospects, and their financial situations will continue to get better," said Lynn Franco, director of the Conference Board Consumer Research Center. "While consumers are ending the year in a somewhat more upbeat mood, it is too soon to tell if this is a rebound from earlier declines or a sustainable shift in attitudes."
The number of consumers saying that the economic situation is good rose from 13.9 percent to 16.6 percent, while the number of consumers saying the situation is bad dropped from 38 to 33.9 percent.
Still, 42 percent of respondents said it's hard to get a job.
