Creganna Acquires Swedish Technology

Ireland-based medical device technology company Creganna, which employs more than 50 people at its Marlborough manufacturing facility, has acquired technology and patents from Micromuscle of Sweden.

Micromuscle produces a polymer by the same name that is able to change volume and other properties in response to electrical stimulus. The material may be incorporated into medical devices. The discovery of the Micromuscle polymer won the Nobel Prize in 2000.

Creganna said the opportunity to acquire the Micromuscle technology arose after the withdrawal of one of Micromuscle's key venture funders forced the company to seek a voluntary liquidation.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
