CVS Boosts Revenue, Profit

CVS Caremark Corp., the Woonsocket, R.I.-based retail pharmacy operator, said revenue for 2009 increased 12.9 percent over the previous year to $98.7 billion.

The company made a $3.7 billion profit during the year compared to $3.2 billion in 2008.

In the fourth quarter, the company made a $1 billion profit on $25.8 billion in revenue.

The company said it opened 23 new retail pharmacy stores in the fourth quarter and closed six. It also relocated eight stores. CVS operates 7,025 retail pharmacy stores, 49 specialty pharmacy stores, 18 specialty mail order pharmacies and six mail order pharmacies in 44 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.
