EMC Unloads Backup Software Unit

Hopkinton-based data storage giant EMC Corp. has sold its Retrospect backup software business to California-based digital media firm Sonic Solutions.
EMC acquired Retrospect when it bought Dantz Corp. in 2004.
Sonic Solutions will develop future Retrospect products and operate the Retrospect business. An EMC business unit will continue bundling Retrospect products with certain hard drives, multimedia drives and other products under a licensing agreement with Sonic.
Retrospect server-based products will now be purchased separately through Sonic Solutions and its partners.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
