Employee Compensation Up

In March 2011, private employers in the Northeast paid $32.16 per hour per employee in wages and benefits, up from $31.63 in December 2010, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Northeastern workers remained the best compensated in the nation. The national average for hourly compensation was $28.10, and compensation in the South - the lowest nationwide -was $24.93.

In the Northeast, wages and salaries averaged $22.35 per hour, while benefits cost $9.81 per hour on average.
