What do employees want? An end to office politics and the chance to work from home.
Those are the two top worker desires in a survey by Framingham-based office supply giant Staples Inc. A Staples.com survey in honor of "Improve Your Office Day" on Oct. 4 found that the top office improvements workers want are eliminating office politics (44 percent), allowing or encouraging telecommuting (41 percent), upgrading computers and office technology (37 percent) and better office furniture (35 percent). More private work areas and more flexible schedules were tied at 34 percent each. (The survey allowed for multiple answers.)
The survey also found that 52 percent of workers gave their office furniture a grade of "C" or lower, and 41 percent gave their office technology the same low grades. Nearly half of respondents, 47 percent, gave their boss an A, and just 22 percent gave him or her a "C" or lower.
