Employers Seek Out References For Job Duty Info

Results of a survey from OfficeTeam say that while a job seeker's resume my put him or her in the running for a position, references can either make or break his or her chances of getting hired.

Managers surveyed said they take 21 percent of candidates out of the running for open positions after speaking to their professional contacts.

Another 36 percent said they are most interested in contacting references for information about an applicant's past job duties and experience and 31 percent said they want to know about an applicant's strengths and weaknesses.

Only about 11 percent contact references to confirm job titles or dates of employment.

OfficeTeam is a staffing service for administrative professionals.
