The Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce is holding a seminar called "Gaining Access to Capital" on Tuesday, May 5 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the chamber's offices at 11 Florence St. in Marlborough.
"Business people think there is no money out there, but there is. Small, regional banks are lending," said Paula Camara, senior business consultant at the Small Business Development Center of Clark University, and one of three speakers at the seminar.
Among the topics to be covered will be how to access capital, how to make sure you're qualified and how to properly present a business to lenders, Camara said.
"Whether you're looking for a line of credit, a restructuring loan, a term-loan or money to buy another company, you still have to have a roadmap and a plan on how to get there," Camara said.
The SBDC offers free guidance to business people, and those thinking of starting a business. "It's important to sit down and say what you're going to use the money for and to have well thought out assumptions before you present to a lender," she said.
Other speakers include John Fossett, executive vice president with Sovereign Bank, and Larry LaChance, president of Bankers Capital. Fossett will discuss the outlook for traditional financing for businesses and LaChance will talk about alternative financing options when all else fails.
The cost is $49 for chamber members and $65 for non-members. Reservations are requested. Registration is available online at the chamber's web site. For more information: call 508-485-7746 or e-mail marlcham@marlboroughchamber.org.
