First-Time Jobless Claims Dip

In the week ending Oct. 16, 452,000 Americans filed claims for unemployment insurance coverage for the first time, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

That's a decrease of 23,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 475,000. The 4-week moving average was 458,000, a decrease of 4,250 from the previous week.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 3.5 percent for the week ending Oct. 9, unchanged from the prior week.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Oct. 9 was 4,441,000, a decrease of 9,000.
