Fitchburg-Area Utility Lines To Be Replaced

Unitil, a New Hampshire-based utility company, said it will replace nearly 20 miles of static line this summer in North Central Massachusetts.

The lines slated for replacement are located in Fitchburg, Lunenburg and Townsend and are approximately 40 years old.

Static lines direct voltage surges caused by lightning strikes away from power lines and into the ground, preventing outages.
