Gas Sales Drive BJ's May Results Down
Natick-based discount chain BJ's Wholesale Club saw its May sales decline to $783.4 million, down 4.7 percent from the same month last year.
Comparable club sales dropped 6.8 percent, thanks to a 10.8 percent decline in gas sales based on lower prices and volume. Traffic increased by 5 percent over last year.
The company said the May sales numbers showed continued strength in food and consumables, televisions and computer equipment but a decline in apparel, jewelry and sporting goods.
