Gov. Deval Patrick was scheduled to visit a construction site in Fitchburg and a school in Gardner as part of a visit to Central and Western Massachusetts today.
Patrick planned to head to Ashby West Road in Fitchburg, where a bridge is being replaced as part of the state's Accelerated Bridge Program.
The bridge over the Scott Reservoir Outlet was determined to be "functionally obsolete" and is being replaced with a single span bridge. According to a state website, the contract for the project was awarded to Bates & Sons Inc. of Clinton last year at a cost of $890,480.
Patrick was also expected to visit the Pathways Early College Innovation School at Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner. The school, which opened last year, was one of the first high schools created under the state's Innovation Schools program.
