High school grads attend college, want jobs

Monster, the Maynard-based job and employee search company, said its first survey of class of 2007 high school graduates shows teens are not waiting for opportunity to knock.

According to Monster, most seniors plan on attending a medium-sized, public university in an urban location.

Three quarters of the 2,000 high-schoolers surveyed said they plan on working while in college, but only 44 percent said they plan to participate in an internship during college.

Of the seniors surveyed by Monster that do not plan on attending college right after graduation, 41 percent already have a job lined up.

The survey also found that students don't plan to hop from job to job once they become part of the workforce. Monster said 63 percent of students said they plan to hold only one or two jobs during their first 10 years of employment.

Students said growth opportunities, job fulfillment and work environment were the most important characteristics of a new job for the respondents while retirement plans and titles were the least important.
