Holy Cross to build $60M science complex

The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester announced plans today to build a $60 million science complex, creating new lab and lecture space for students and research labs for half of the chemistry faculty.

The three-year project will be completed in two phases: construction of the new, four-story complex, followed by renovations to Haberlin Hall.  The 44,000 square-foot facility is expected to be ready for occupancy in January 2009.  Haberlin all will be gutted and completely rebuilt, and is slated for completion in January of 2010.

The College is seeking Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, certification for the building, which will use environmentally-friendly design elements such as an energy recovery wheel to capture and reuse heat.

Groundbreaking for the new building will take place in the spring.
