The Town of Hopkinton has received a $3-million MassWorks Infrastructure Program Grant for its Main Street Corridor Project, the town announced on Friday, marking the final step in funding the initiative.

The Main Street Corridor project, which will include installing bicycle lanes, sidewalk construction, new traffic signals and overhead utility relocations, is intended to improve safety for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians, as well as reduce downtown congestion, according to the town website.

“This is a project that, given where we are now, is going to be very important for the economic growth and development of not only Hopkinton, but the MetroWest region,” said Town Manager Norman Khumalo, in a statement.

Construction is slated to begin in May 2021.
