IDC: Utilities Are Major Business Analytics Market

Utilities could be one of the fastest-growing industries to use business analytics technology in the coming years, Framingham-based IDC's Energy Insights predicts.
As utility companies adopt "game-changing" technology related to smart grid and energy management services, they will require more sophisticated data management systems, IDC predicts in a new report.
Business analytics can help utility companies support automation, make better capital investments and allow for more personal energy management by consumers.
IDC's new report, titled "Business Strategy: Ready for the Dip ... Err ... Plunge? Utility Business Analytics" is based on a business intelligence and analytics survey conducted last year by IDC.
