Jobless claims jump

According to the U.S. Department of Labor , 9,000 more Americans filed for unemployment insurance during the week ended Aug. 25 than during the previous week.

The department said 334,000 people filed for unemployment benefits last week, compared to 325,000 the week before.

The department's 4-week moving average was 324,500, an increase of 6,250 from the previous week.

The insured unemployment rate was 2 percent for the week ending Aug. 18, an increase of 0.1 percent from the prior week, according to the department.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Aug. 18 was 2,579,000.
